Activities

Throughout the spring term we arrange different, exciting activities for the ESN students. There will be happenings each month, everything from weekend trips to Stavanger and hiking trips to Kjerag to International pubs and parties at Såpa. Check the 'News' section for all upcoming events.

The program for Spring 2010 is now out, and here is an overview and description of all the events ESN has planned for this semesters' students.

Welcome Dinner
Wednesday January 27th there will be a dinner in the Universities Cafeteria to welcome all new students. The dinner starts at 18, and after the dinner there will be workshops where students will make posters for their home universities, in order to present them at the International Day on February 3rd.

Ferrytrip to Denmark
Friday 27th of January there will be a boat trip to Denmark. The ferry, 'Super Speed', will take us to Denmark in three hours, and then after one hour in Denmark, it takes us back to Kristiansand again. The trip is free, but we recommend you to take the buffet - 3 hours with free food and drinks(soda, beer, wine) on the way back from Denmark. Buffet is NOK 250.

International Day
Wednesday February 3rd International Office alongst with ESN will arrange an International Day. This day, exchange students and Norwegian students that were on exchange last semester, will have stands in the main hall where they will present their home universities. There is also a program with guest presenters throughout the day. Prices for best stand!

International Pub
International Pub is an event which takes place the first Tuesday of each month. It is a great way of getting to know new cultures, your fellow exchangers and to meet people and socialize. Each Tuesday, several countries will be presented. The exchange students come up with creative ways to present their own countries at the student pub at the university.

Here is a list of the dates of this semester, and which countries are presenting when:

3/2: Romania, Spain, Italy, France and Turkey.

2/3: Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Denmark and China

23/3:USA, UK, Serbia, Greece, Lithuania, (Tanzania and South Africa)

13/4:Latvia, Slovakia, Czech republic, Poland, (Albania and Sri Lanka)

International Dinner - Potluck
A potluck is a gathering of people who all bring a different dish with them. All participating students will bring a special dish from their home country, which will be enough for a certain amount of the people there. This is a great way of getting to taste food from all parts of the world, and a great way to socialize with the other students and ESN members. The potluck takes place at the student pub, Østsia in the beginning/middle of February.

Bortelid
Lets have some fun in the snow! Saturday February 20th, ESN is arranging a trip for ski-enthusiasts, or for those who just want to see a huge part of the Norwegian culture. Located about 2 hours from Kristiansand, in the mountains, Bortelid is a skiresort with many slopes. Here you can do snowboarding or alpine skiing, or crosscountry skiing. Emails will be sent out when the registration for the trip opens.

Carneval
February is carneval time, even in Norway! Although it cannot be compared to the carneval in Brazil, here in Norway we dress up and have a huge party. This will be alot of fun, and hopefully as fun as last years Halloween party.

Party
On the 13th of March we will be arranging a big party. The place and theme has not yet been decided, but stay tuned!

'Goodbye Party'
The goodbye party is probably the best and worst party of the semester :P Its the last official party for all the exchange students, and its sad to realize that the semester is about to end, but at the same time, everyone knows each other so well that it is known for being the best party!:)
Good friends and alot of fun, what more can you ask for?? :D

Kjerag Trip
Kjerag and the Kjerag Bolt is located 1000 meters above the Lysefjord in the county of Rogaland. Every year we arrange a trip here, which is a huge success. We take a bus up to the beginning of the hiking trails, and then walk for around 3 hours before we reach the edge of the mountain. After some time at the top of the fjord, we walk back to the buses and continue the drive back to Kristiansand. The Kjerag trip is something you definitely wont forget, and it gives you a spectacular view of Norway beautiful and amazing nature. This semester the trip will be taking place in late May / early June. Because of the snow, the roads are closed until this time, and it is hard to set a date when you don't know when the roads open! When registration opens, everyone will be notified by email! This trip has limited seating, and its a first come, first serve!

Goodbye Dinner
As we've had a welcome dinner, we also need to arrange a Goodbye dinner for all of you! This will be a great way to see everyone before you go your separate ways. Lets remember all the fun, and all the memories we've made!

To make the ESN trips and parties even better we try to have an activity group that can plan and make suggestions about the events, or even create new events. If you want to take part in this, write an e-mail to: arrangement@esnagder.no
